It’s been a rough go for Antonio Pierce in his first season as Las Vegas Raiders head coach—he recently expanded on what he’s learned about himself.
To say that things went south for Pierce is putting it mildly. The season began with much optimism, particularly following a victory against the Baltimore Ravens in September. That probably feels like a lifetime ago for Pierce and his apologists. All we heard about was a “culture shift” and how things would begin to change. The Raiders’ 10-game losing streak was the only thing that changed.
Same old Raiders…
Just like that, the Silver and Black were back to being the league’s doormat—they even held the No. 1 pick at one point. Now, with just one game left on the docket, Pierce was asked about what he’s learned about himself amid all of the losing in 2024.
“Patience. Stay with my gut. Those two things.”
When you did as much losing as the Raiders have done this season, you’d hope that Pierce learned something about “patience.” However, the team still has some football left to play. More importantly, you could argue that the head coach is trying to show owners Mark Davis and Tom Brady why he should stay on for another year. To do so, he’s got the playoff-bound Los Angeles Chargers coming to Allegiant Stadium.
“Finish. Finish. We all signed up for 17 games, an 18-week schedule. We’ve had a really good month in my opinion, regardless of record, just seeing the improvement, things that we talked about, and now just a great opportunity against a divisional foe that we know very well, that we saw in Week 1, to finish.”
Pierce and his team need to conclude their season with a strong performance. They’ve already missed out on a top five draft pick, correct? You might as well keep building momentum, as the team finds itself on a two-game winning streak. Pierce, as previously mentioned, has observed the team’s improvement and success, despite the questionable level of competition. Even so, these are the Chargers that are coming into town, and these AFC West matchups are no joke. No one wants to lose to the other.
Antonio Pierce was an easy guy to root for on the surface. But it is time to get serious if you are the Raiders and stop trying to catch lightning in a bottle. RESUME’ say it with me Nation RESUME’ pic.twitter.com/aztQeH26Mu

As far as Pierce’s prospects moving forward, it’s obvious that the honeymoon ended long ago. Even with a win in Week 18, has the Cinderella story reached its conclusion?
