Another week in the NFL and another Davante Adams rumor, but is Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce pulling a fast one on everyone?
At this point, hearing Adams’ name and conjecture surrounding his future is an NFL staple. Nonetheless, none of it ever holds water—even after the man himself discredits all of those “rumors” every offseason since joining the Raiders. The difference with the most recent episode of all this is that Pierce has reportedly joined in on the fun. Let’s hope it remains a lighthearted affair rather than something more serious.
So, what exactly is happening?
Sports Illustrated’s Michael Fabiano, formerly of CBS Sports and NFL Media, ignited the world with a statement about Adams and the Raiders. Essentially, Fabiano declared that Adams has played “his last snap” for the Silver and Black.
“Some of my little birds out there are suggesting to me that there’s a chance he doesn’t play another down for the Raiders and that he could have played yesterday, but the Raiders are looking to deal him because they think they could get some value for him. They know they’re going nowhere this year, especially with the quarterback situation they have right now.”
Well, Fabiano isn’t wrong on one count: the quarterback play. If things remain the same with Gardner Minshew under center, the playoffs are likely out of reach if you look at things objectively. At the same time, what value could Adams fetch at this point? His massive contract also accounts for a lot; it’s not a cheap one. All of this hearsay aside, that’s not what is making headlines—let’s be honest, rumors surrounding Adams are a cheap way to get views and clicks these days.
Antonio Pierce adding fuel to the latest Raiders rumor…
Coach Pierce reportedly “liked” the Adams story on Instagram, which is either a way of him having some fun, or it could be something else. Pierce has already gotten comfortable with the media in his short time as head coach. Let’s face it: as a former player himself, Pierce always speaks his mind.
A “like” on social media, however, can cause a bigger uproar than any speech or presser bit.
What do you think, Raider Nation? Something or nothing?
