Not So Fast With All Of The Bill Belichick Theories, Raider Fans

Wed Jan 01, 2025, 9:11pm

Social media erupted following the news of Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce’s dismissal. On Wednesday, a rumor surfaced about Bill Belichick potentially “changing his mind” and rejoining the NFL, possibly with the Silver and Black.

Let’s pause for a moment. We should brace ourselves, as this will be the standard for the next week or so, possibly even longer.

Now, back to Belichick. League insider Tom Pelissero reported in the morning that new Raiders minority owner Tom Brady reached out to his old coach to gauge his interest in possibly returning to the professional ranks. As most are aware, the former Patriots head coach and architect of that dynasty joined the collegiate ranks, specifically the University of North Carolina. However, it’s interesting if Brady tried either way knowing Belichick’s commitment to the college.

Bill Belichick to the Las Vegas Raiders? Unlikely…

Nonetheless, it didn’t take long for other insiders and people close to the situation to report on it. The Raiders beat writer from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Vincent Bonsignore, was among those who quickly reported on the situation. It seems that Brady’s approach was more about seeking advice from Belichick about specific procedures. We can assume that this has to relate to searching for a new head coach after Pierce’s departure. Mike Vrabel, the former Tennessee Titans head coach with obvious ties to both Brady and Belichick, has been associated with the Raiders since last year.

The sense I’m getting on @Raiders/Bill Belichick per sources: The talks were more about Tom Brady picking Belichick’s brain on search process/traits, etc, rather than trying to bring him to LV as the head coach.

Adding to Bonsignore’s comments, Dianna Russini of The Athletic also weighed in. The insider reported that, according to her knowledge and sources, Belichick isn’t interested in an NFL return and is committed to the college game. If this is indeed true, Raiders fans may have cause for celebration, especially if they weren’t overly enthusiastic about Belichick. For those who oppose another “Patriot” taking over the Raiders, we remain open-minded and will not rule out Vrabel until further notice.
