Despite leading a Las Vegas Raiders offense that hasn’t scored 20 points since taking over, interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner could be joining Bill Belichick.
Belichick’s decision to return to coaching stunned the football world recently. The architect of the New England Patriots dynasty is on his way to the University of North Carolina, where he will take over a football program that may not resonate with most people. Let’s face it, that school is mostly known for its basketball glory. Still, Belichick’s pedigree and knowledge could turn the Tar Heels into an elite program—will the Raiders’ current leader on offense be joining him?
Raiders OC Scott Turner garnering interest…
Raider Nation demanded the dismissal of the now-fired Luke Getsy due to his lackluster offensive performances. Once the fans received their wish, Turner, along with his father, former Raiders head coach Norv Turner, took on the task of turning things around. Truthfully, things didn’t get better. The Raiders haven’t scored 20 points since Turner took the reins. There have been some positive developments, such as the emergence of Sincere McCormick. Will Raiders fans clamor for him to get another chance next season?
Probably not. It’s also highly likely that Raiders brass won’t be countering any possible offer from UNC; we could be looking at a “hard reset” this offseason.
For the sake of debate, it’s difficult to understand why Turner would even receive consideration. If anything, Raiders fans probably expect Josh McDaniels to get the call to run Belichick’s offense—another popular name within Raider Nation. Well, Turner has some notable experience in the college ranks. He was the wide receiver’s coach at Pittsburgh from 2008 through 2010. Turner was also a part of Jim Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan back in 2017 as an offensive analyst.
For now, Turner still has to lead the Raiders’ offense in these final games. If anything, it could be a showcase for how some of these young players might contribute in the future, even if Turner likely won’t be a part of it.
